| Dr. Thomas Janssen
was the Associate Director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Research and Medicine
(IRRM) at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, from 1994 through 1998. Among his many
works during this period was the seminal "Clinical Efficacy of
Electrical Stimulation Exercise Training: Effects on Health, Fitness, and Function,"
as published in the Winter 1998 Topics in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation
(Stephen Figoni, issue editor). At the IRRM, Dr. Janssen served under the expert tutelage
of the late Dr. Roger Glaser, an authority in the field of rehabilitation medicine. Dr.
Glaser lost his life on April 9, 1998, after a long bout with cancer. At the annual
meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Seattle, Washington, Dr. Janssen and
his research peers and friends, George Brooks, Mike Sawka, Glen Davis, Michael Kjaer, and
Maria Hopman, organized a symposium, "Exercise after spinal cord injury," in
memory of Dr. Glaser. Among Dr. Thomas
Janssen's numerous hobbies is his love for baseball. He has a real appreciation and
understanding of the subtleties of the game. James Schorey, president of Therapeutic
Alliances, is looking forward to Thomas' next visit to Dayton, Ohio, when the two of them
can sit in the stands at a Cincinnati Reds game and revel in America's pastime. |
